Meat & Cancer

Lots of you might be wondering how might meats be linked to cancer?

Actually, an international panel of experts convened by the World Health Organization concluded that eating processed meat like hot dogs, ham, and bacon raises the risk of colon cancer and that consuming other red meatsprobably raises the risk as well.

For processed meat, like hot dogs and sausages have been salted, cured or smoked to enhance flavor and improve preservation.

As for red meat, the concern with it has more to do with the cooking. Grilling, barbecuing and pan-frying meat creates potential carcinogens, including heterocyclic aromatic amines.

However, there is no enough data to know for sure whether boiling meats might lower cancer risk.
